Who doesn’t enjoy a classic underdog story? The team that’s got no all-stars going up against last years champs and somehow they squeak out a win. Or what about that team that’s losing 28-3 at halftime and then turns it around to win a Super Bowl? Everybody’s cheering and talking about those moments.
Check it out! YOU were the biggest underdog of all time! Sin had you crushed, defeated, and destined for hell but God stepped in and gave you the greatest victory of all time through His Son Jesus! Now you are an all-star, MVP, a ring-wearing champion because of Jesus!
Here are 7 actions you can take to live in that VICTORY every single day of your life.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
Be aware of the situations you’re getting yourself into. Satan is always setting traps. Watch out for his sneakiness.
Imagine the consequences
Genesis 39:9 “…how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
It’s easy to get caught up in a moment of pleasure. Fast forward 30 minutes or 2 years from now and are you still going to be happy you made that choice? Trading your character for a fleeting pleasure will always hurt you.
Cry out to God
Psalm 18:6 “In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.”
God’s always ready to hear your prayers especially when you’re being tempted. He’s ready to help and rescue you from those temptations, just ask Him.
Take every thought into captivity
2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
Your thoughts are not the boss of you. You are the boss of your thoughts. Tell yourself what to think. Think on things that are pure, lovely, honest, and of a good report.
Omnipresence of God
Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”
You should feel fear of God. He’s always watching you. You’re not getting away with anything. He never takes a vacation or goes out for the evening. There’s no fooling God.
Replace bad habits with good habits
Ephesians 4:22-23 “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
Substitute your bad actions with good. Want to stop lying? Tell the truth. Want to stop cheating? Let your wife look at your phone every day. Want to stop cussing? Pause and thank God for one person in your life.
Yield to the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
There is no victory without the Spirit. The Spirit living inside of you is who enables you to live a victorious Christian life. Take advantage of the opportunities that He gives you to love people, express patience, and exude self-control.
