How do I take care of myself?

How do I take care of myself?

You can never get away from yourself. However long you live on this earth, you will spend every day attached to you. Someone once said that life is a marathon not a sprint. So how do you take care of yourself to do marriage, ministry, and life for the long term?

“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As Paul spoke to the leaders of the church at Ephesus, he chose to tell them to “take heed therefore unto yourselves.” Just like the store manager checks his inventory to see what he needs to resupply in the store, so do you need to check the inventory of your life and see what needs to be replenished. Here are a few tips to help you:

1. Pay attention to your body

Pain is good thing because it keeps you from causing harm to yourself. Pain is your body warning you that something bad is happening. God put those nerves in your body to keep you from causing damage to yourself. Go see a doctor. Check out what is causing the problem.

2. Purposely get rest

You live in 2021. You know by now that 6-8 hours of sleep is the target you should be shooting for. Do it! Turn the TV off, stop scrolling on social media, put your phone on do not disturb, get your children to bed, and go to sleep! Your brain is designed to retain memories and toss out pointless details from the day through sleep. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.

3. Plan your physical exercise

Your body needs to get your heart rate elevated for at least 20 minutes a day. A brisk walk for 20 minutes outside will get you Vitamin D, clear your mind, and increase your heart rate. Set an alarm everyday to plan your time of exercise.

4. Practice spiritual refreshment

You desire to have a relationship with God. You always feel better after you pray. You feel refreshed when you read God’s Word. Practice daily getting alone with God.

“My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭104:34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Your life can easily get bogged down with the seriousness of life. If you’re a Mom, you worry about your children at school. If you’re a boss, you can be concerned about your profits and employees. If you’re a pastor, you can be weighed down with the pressures of ministry. You need to practice these 4 tips in your life. You will feel better and others around you will be helped because you helped yourself.
