Are you worshipping Jesus this Christmas?

Our culture really likes to focus on our personal happiness. We buy Netflix subscriptions, purchase Disneyland passes, and get the car with the heated seats. This is so evident at Christmas time as malls are packed with busy shoppers, parking garages are jammed full with anxious parents, and UPS lines are out the door as we send gifts to our loved ones.

Christmas was never meant to make you happy. Christmas happened to make you holy. Jesus was born so that He could grow up and die on a cross to save you from the penalty of your sin. Choose to be more concerned with worshipping Jesus than making everyone around you happy.

Matthew 2:1-2 “Behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him.”

It took time and diligence for the wise men to get to Jesus. Surely they faced obstacles to get to Him. They faced challenges getting there but they had to get to Jesus.

Matthew 2:11 “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”

When the wise men came to worship, they brought something of value. It cost them time and energy to get to Jesus but now it’s costing them something materially. They gave a tangible gift to Jesus. What will you give to Jesus this Christmas?

“Christmas is built upon a beautiful and intentional paradox; that the birth of the homeless should be celebrated in every home.” – G.K. Chesterton
