The tongue is an amazing muscle. It has the power to change lives. We can use our ability to communicate to edify or destroy. God tells us in Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” How are you doing with your speech? Is it tempered by the spirit? Are you words graciously seasoned with salt?
Here’s a few verses on the tongue and keeping our mouth in check:
James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Proverbs 11:12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Proverbs 17:27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
There’s not a person on planet earth that doesn’t struggle with their mouth. Ask God to help you refrain your lips, hold your peace, spare your words, and be gracious today.
